Essential Info
Your studies on this course will examine various aspects of creating performance for the screen, the use of electronic media in live performance and a range of media industry practices. To develop your interests even further you can choose to study related areas such as fiction film making and scriptwriting.
At our ATRiuM campus you will work in fully-equipped drama studios, a fully-functioning HD TV studio and a purpose-built radio station. You will find a wide variety of extracurricular activities are available for you to pursue, including public productions, student films, professional workshops and a campus radio station to name a few.
Studying in Cardiff also means there are an array of world-class venues and production companies on your doorstep including of course a major centre for production in the UK – the headquarters of BBC Wales.

What You Will Study
The key areas you will study are: live and recorded performance; technology and performance (including radio and video production); the context and history of drama; TV and Radio presentation; methods of analysis.
Performance modules will give you an awareness of contemporary performance practice on stage and screen. In production modules you will study the range of technical skills needed to make creative content for films, television and radio programmes.
In years two and three the course is based on your own choices within flexible options. You might choose Scriptwriting (for stage, screen and radio); Radio (drama and production); various aspects of Stage Performance; Fiction Film Making; Applied Drama; as well as modules on specialist subjects that reflect the research interests of senior staff. Students may also choose to spend year two studying abroad.

How You Will Study
Theory is taught through lectures, seminars and screenings while practical work is studied in studio workshops. You will be assessed using practical work (including filmed and/or mixed-media performances), essays, reflective analysis and presentations which will give you a broad range of experiences and skills in a variety of media.
