Have you always wondered what goes on behind the scenes of blockbuster movies and your favourite TV shows? From James Bond to Hollyoaks, skilled art and production designers are needed to create these fictional worlds that keep us entertained.
This television and film set design degree will give you plenty of hands-on experience of designing for single and multi-camera productions, ranging from science fiction to period drama and light entertainment. You will also gain art directing experience on collaborative short films, be responsible for handling budgets and go on visits to scenic construction companies and studio recordings.
Work placements are an important part of this course, they give a practical insight into the industry you are entering and will ultimately increase your chances of employment. Students have successfully spent placements on the BBC productions Crash, Mistresses, Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Welsh soap opera Pobol y Cwm.

What You Will Study
You will be immersed in a professional creative environment that benefits from strong industry links. You will develop an awareness of drawing, technical drawing and model-making, as well as explore the history of film and design to support your work. Starting from a script or a brief, you will learn how to design studio plans to scale, make set models and produce construction drawings and storyboards.

Possible Career Options
Successful graduates enter the industry to work as art department assistants, assistant art directors and ultimately in roles as art directors and production designers on television and film productions. Recent graduates have worked on such wide-ranging productions as Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Beat the Star at Pinewood, and Ricky Gervais’s first feature film Cemetery Junction.
