What You Will Study
The first year of your animation degree will concentrate on gaining basic animation techniques for 2D and stop-motion animation through practical exercises. Once you have mastered these, you will develop advanced skills using traditional and digital animation.
In years two and three of the animation degree, you can specialise in the following areas:
- Character animation
- Animated short filmmaking
- Design for animation
- Flash animation
- Concept art
- Storyboard art
- Background art
- Character design
- Comic book artist
- Stop-motion model/puppet-maker/sculptor for animation production
How You Will Study
Your practical work will be complemented and enhanced by theory modules. The module in Visual Studies will develop your observational skills, Film Studies will provide a context for your practical work and Business Studies will ensure you have a thorough understanding of the industry and the marketplace.

Many career opportunities exist in the animation industry. Our graduates have worked on productions such as Fantastic Mr Fox, Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride, Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam and The Cramp Twins, at prestigious studios such as Warner Bros, a-Productions, Aardman Animations, Cosgrove Hall, Hot Animation, Calon, Telemagination or HRA Associates.
Work/Study Placements:
During the second year of your animation degree, there is an opportunity to apply for a place on our exchange programme to study at one of our partner institutions in China.
