The BSc (Hons) Managing Pain degree is a unique distance learning degree that offers health professionals who work or have an interest in pain management the knowledge they need to develop as pain experts.
The managing pain degree is flexible and designed to provide knowledge of pain, therapeutic approaches to pain and working within organisations to ensure the effective management of pain. It is anticipated that successful graduates will become leaders in the field of pain management within their area of practice.

What You Will Study
We have recently reviewed course content to
allow a flexible approach to studying.
There are three core modules to achieve the BSc:
- The Nature of Pain
- Research Module
- Principles of Managing Pain
There is a choice of modules to achieve the BSc (Hons):
- Therapeutic Approaches to Managing Pain module and one of the following:
- A 40 credit project module
- Or a 20 credit project module and another 20 credit related module at the University, eg, Managing Chronic Pain in the Community (PANIC), Care and Management of Adult Patients in Acute Surgical Contexts, Caring for Patient with Heart Failure,
- Or a 40 credit related module at the University, e.g. Palliative and End of Life Care, Essentials of Care in Anaesthetics and Recovery, Principles of Wound Management.
How You Will Study
This distance learning course offers tutorials on a flexible basis. You will benefit from a blended learning approach, with support from distance learning materials, teleconferencing and our e-learning technology, Blackboard.
Assessment includes online assessments, assignments, literature reviews, the development of care pathways, portfolios and presentations. There will also be an assessment of clinical practice through clinical learning outcomes.
