With the expansion of technology for entertainment and commerce, the possibilities for a future in the creative technologies are exciting and wide ranging.

Studying at our ATRiuM campus, you will benefit from hands-on experience of the equipment and tools used by professionals in the industry, using both PC and Mac platforms. You will work across a variety of creative disciplines to develop a range of skills and experiences that will make you attractive to employers in the creative industries. This course is part of the Skillset Media Academy Wales, a partnership with Aberystwyth University, Cardiff University and the University of Newport.

Between years two and three, you have the opportunity to undertake a work placement year in a multimedia or media-based organisation. During this year, not only will you learn new skills and develop an understanding of the field, but you will make industry contacts, get good experience for your CV and it is likely to improve your final year grades.

What You Will Study

In years one and two of your media technology degree, you will receive a balance of practice and theory. You will explore interactive media/multimedia technology applications, internet technology and graphics. You will learn how to use computing and multimedia for the film and broadcasting industries, internet and multimedia authoring development, audio and visual media systems, and studio production skills. You can also explore developments in new media design.

In your final year of your media technology degree, you can specialise in your chosen area and will be part of a multi-disciplined team for a group project. Modules include computer-based media production using industry-standard tools and approaches, how to broadcast and store audio/video information, virtual reality and multimedia.

Due to the practical nature of this course, we place less emphasis on examinations and more focus on continual assessment and practical demonstrations of your work and abilities. Practical coursework with industrial relevance and specifications will show you how to translate your ideas into reality.

This degree will prepare you for a successful career in media systems and production, multimedia development and authoring, internet technologies, the computer industry, broadcasting and marketing.
