This MSc is designed for graduates with an accredited BEng honours degree who are in relevant employment and want to become chartered engineers.

Essential Info

On completing the MSc Professional Engineering, students will have achieved the academic requirements needed to satisfy the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competencies (UK-SPEC). The degree is part of the Engineering Council’s Engineering Gateways initiative, which provides flexible pathways to professional qualification for working engineers who cannot commit to full-time study.

What You Will Study

At the beginning of the award, a Professional Development Audit is carried out to determine which of the professional competencies the student has already evidenced through previous projects and which still need to be addressed. Once the outstanding professional competencies have been identified, a Learning Contract is developed and agreed by the student, his or her employer and the university. This Learning Contract is then submitted for approval to the professional body as the monitored Professional Development Plan. A series of modules will then be undertaken to address the required professional competencies.
