This journalism degree covers the basic skills of finding and telling stories, as well as the specialist skills needed to work in print, radio, TV and on the web

Essential Info

Journalists provide the news and features that we need to help us function as informed citizens in an age that is characterised by an abundance of information. The journalist’s job is to act as the eyes and ears of the public, to find out what is going on and explain it to the wider world in ways that can be easily understood.

Our journalism degree is based at our ATRiuM campus. You will get to work with the latest kit, including desktop publishing software and superb broadcasting facilities. Journalism degree students will also meet a wide range of industry professionals, both on our teaching staff and as visiting lecturers, from the BBC, ITV, magazines, and the national and local press.

During your journalism degree, we will help you get ahead through work placements and by getting your work into print or broadcast on local and student radio stations, such as GTFM and Tequila Radio. We also host the Wales Centre for Radio. There are many activities you can get involved in – last year, these included a joint photoshoot with fashion students, a week’s work placement for all year two and three students, court-reporting visits and a mock news conference with local police.

This course is accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council.
